On Monday night (1 May 2006), the People's Action Party (PAP) held their
election rally for Hougang and Aljunied constituencies in the centre of
Hougang town.
They used the same field and stage as the
Workers' Party's rally the night before.
For decades now, it's been a known fact
that rallies by opposition parties always attract bigger crowds than the
PAP's, but the PAP still wins at the polls. Turnout is no indicator of
voting intention.
To begin with, most people have a very
clear idea what the PAP stands for; they really don't need to attend a
rally to find out. In addition, the PAP has the resources to get their
message out in other ways....
