Rally at Chua Chu Kang Park

Unlike all the other rallies I have attended, Chua Chu Kang constituency is a single-member ward. It is thus much smaller than the group representation constituencies.

As a more local affair, the rally was less likely to attract people from other parts of Singapore. Most of the people in the picture look like they've just walked over from their homes. Here, I told myself, I was going to witness local politics, not national ones.

Making my way from the back of the crowd to the front -- there being no high vantage point from which to take pictures, so I absolutely had to make it to the front -- I could assess the extent of the crowd. It stretched about 100m from the stage and was about 60m wide.

Thus, it covered an area of about 6,000 sq. metres. This picture, which was taken about halfway to the front, suggests an average density of about 1 person per sq. metre. Hence, 6,000 people in all.
