Our trees

 

 

A generation ago, Singapore's urbanscape was quite treeless too. Ours was a city of closely-packed shophouses and narrow streets, as seen in this view of Trengganu, Temple and Pagoda Streets.

There was hardly space for a bush, let alone a tree.

On hot days, everywhere would have felt like an oven.
