Serangoon Road is the main thoroughfare in the
district of Little India. The lighted arches have been put up by the
Singapore Tourism Board for the month or so leading up to the Deepavali
festival (also known as Diwali), which this year is celebrated on 21 Oct 2006.
Even on a weekday night, Little India is very busy. Its narrow walkways fronting the shops are often blocked by merchandise and so pedestrians tend to spill onto the streets. |
