Just off Kurfürstendamm, the main shopping
boulevard of Berlin, is a quirky museum that has a fascinating
collection of art from various countries depicting sex. It is entirely in
keeping with Berlin's tradition of being one of the most liberal cities in
Europe.
The museum isn't large, spread over 2
floors of a non-descript building, the ground floor of which has sex
shops, but its contents are so engrossing that you could spend two hours
in there.
It was very dim inside, not because it
chose to appear sleazy, which it wasn't, but because some of the prints
were old and delicate. Flash photography, obviously, wasn't allowed, and
so it was a challenge taking these pictures.
The museum does not allow those under the
age of 18 to enter. Viewers of this website, if aged under 18, are
likewise advised to hit the "Back" button.
Erotik Museum's address is: Joachimstaler
Strasse 4, (that's house number 4 on Joachimstaler Street) and is open
from 9 a.m. to midnight.
